LED lights provide efficient, long-lasting illumination for living rooms, bedrooms, offices and other indoor spaces. When choosing one, consider whether you need general, task or decorative lighting, then check the brightness, colour temperature, dimensions and installation requirements.

What type of LED light do you need?

The right type depends on where and how the light will be used. Ceiling lights are suitable for general room illumination, while table and floor lamps provide focused or softer ambient light. Wall-mounted designs can brighten corridors, reading areas or spaces where floor and surface space is limited.

How bright should an LED light be?

Choose the brightness according to the room size and intended use rather than relying only on wattage. A stronger light output is useful in kitchens, offices and work areas, while lower brightness creates a more relaxed effect in bedrooms and living rooms. Dimmable LEDs make it easier to adjust the light for different activities, provided the fitting and controls are compatible.

Which colour temperature should you choose?

Warm white light creates a softer effect suited to bedrooms, dining areas and living spaces. Neutral white provides clearer illumination for kitchens, bathrooms and offices, while cooler tones are better reserved for detailed tasks. Adjustable colour temperature is useful when the same room is used for both work and relaxation.

Are integrated LEDs or replaceable bulbs better?

Integrated LED lights have the light source built into the fitting, which allows for slim shapes and even illumination, but usually means the LED module cannot be replaced separately. Fixtures with replaceable LED bulbs offer more flexibility, as you can change the brightness or colour temperature and replace the bulb when needed.

Where should LED lights be positioned?

Position the light so it illuminates the required area without creating glare or strong shadows. Ceiling fittings should suit the height and proportions of the room, while desk and reading lamps should direct light towards the work surface. Before installing wall or ceiling lights, check the available electrical connection and make sure doors, cupboards and walkways remain unobstructed.

What should you check before buying?

Confirm the light’s dimensions, lumen output, colour temperature and whether the LEDs are integrated or replaceable. Also check the energy rating, dimming compatibility, cable length or installation method and whether the fitting is suitable for the intended room. These details will help you choose an LED light that provides sufficient illumination and fits the available space.
